Friction-Free Bearing (F.F.B)

As a result of pursuing heavy duty bearing material with superior low friction property,MIKASA CORPORATION developed combined bearings made of P.T.F.E. and synthetic rubber in 1982. 20 years or more actual experiences of F.F.B. in naval vessels and in high speed long-distance cruising ferries prove in actual that F.F.B. are the most effective bearings, in conformity with strict demands of vessels, namely, heavy duty, low vibration, low noise levels, maximum fuel economy, and long life with less maintenance cost. ADVANTAGES OF F.F.B.

1. Heavy Duty
F.F.B. can receive twice or more heavy load on it, as compared with conventional rubber bearing. F.F.B. are still working over 10 years or more in good condition by numbers of fast cruising ferries with main diesel engines 9,710KW×2sets to 23,830KW×2sets, for sailing service speed 29.4knot, without any replacement, keeping an adequate clearance.
2. Extremely low coefficient of friction
In view of superior frictional characteristics of F.F.B. namely one fourth less as compared with rubber bearing, F.F.B. contribute greatly to save fuel consumption.
3. Suitable Elasticity and Wear Resistance
As a special compound elastic rubber is sandwiched between Poly-tetra Fluoro Ethylene and the outer metal shell, F.F.B. absorbs an eccentric load as well as a vibration. In this regard, F.F.B. have been showing good performance with superior wear resistance property as compared with other bearing materials such as urethane polymer bearing and / or Phenolic resin bearing.
4. Long life with less maintenance cost
Clearance between I.D. of F.F.B. and O.D. of shaft sleeve are kept in an adequate allowable level over a long period of time. Extremely, F.F.B. bring good effect on shaft sleeve with less abrasion.
5. Self-Lubrication Property
As F.F.B. is having superior frictional characteristics in a low revolution range, stick-slip or friction whirl phenomena which are apt to occur at the start and the stop in the use of conventional rubber bearings, would be solved remarkably by the use of F.F.B.
