MIKASA also participated in the “Scientific thinking, Hiroshima Project” which was requested by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation as a part of the model project, “Early-stage engineering personnel training project” held by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The purpose of this project is to evoke interest and concern toward the science and engineering course, by becoming familiar with the science course in the early stage, and to make students feel pleasure and joy in the work, while giving them a view of such occupations.
An explanation about MIKASA and an introduction on work involved in the balls and industrial goods, as well as an explanation about “what is work?” were provided to first-year students in junior high schools.
Further, we introduced the rebound test machine using an infrared ray sensor and conducted a practical demonstration. Then, an experiment for obtaining the amount of rebound by using balls was actually carried out by participants.
In the second half, we accepted questions by students.
The following questions were asked.
“What have you learned from this occupation?”
“What kind of unique technologies does MIKASA have?”
“What are you proud of about this work?”
“What has a customer told you that made you happy?” etc.
